The Family Acid is L.A. and San Francisco based family consisting of Roger, Mary, Kate, and Devon Steffens.
Roger Steffens is a decorated Viet Nam veteran, photographer, archivist, author, actor, editor, DJ, and lecturer. He has been taking photographs since the early 1960s, documenting his unorthodox life and experiences. In 2013, Roger's son Devon scanned his slides and negatives, and daughter Kate began posting them to Instagram, accompanied with stories and historical information related to each photo. The majority of these photographs haven't been seen by anyone outside of the family until now. There are approximately 40,000 Kodachrome slides and hundreds of thousands of black and white and color negatives. Since 2015, The Family Acid has released three books and one zine of photography and reminiscences.
Kate Steffens is an editor, archivist, writer, and artist. She works as an archivist/librarian at a University in the Bay Area. Kate also curates The Family Acid Instagram page and runs the photo archives. She is currently at work on the next Family Acid book, and is continuously digitizing more negatives and slides as they are unearthed. She is available for archival consultations and licensing queries via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Devon Steffens is a musician and artist. His latest single as Psychic Health was released in September 2019 on Time No Place Records.
Mary Steffens is the heart of The Family Acid, providing stories, memories, and inspiration.
